Title: Pancreatic Pseudocyst: A Case Report
Background: Pancreatic pseudocysts are encapsulated fluid collections that develop as a complication of acute or chronic pancreatitis. They result from pancreatic ductal disruption and the accumulation of enzyme-rich fluid, surrounded by a non-epithelial fibrous wall. Although often asymptomatic, they can cause abdominal pain, infection, rupture, or compression of adjacent structures.
Case Presentation: We report the case of 11 year-old boy patient presenting with persistent epigastric pain after 3 weeks appendicectomy. Imaging studies, including abdominal ultrasound and contrast-enhanced CT scan, revealed a fluid collection measuring (8-7-6)cm, suggestive of a pancreatic pseudocyst. Conservative management with close monitoring was initially attempted, but due to increasing symptoms and rupture of cyst , external drainage was performed. The patient's clinical course was unfavorable, with reccurence of the cyst as large as initially and no symptom resolution.
we performed then, an open gasrocystostomy surgery.
The patient started liquid feeding on 3rd post operative day and was discharged on the 7th day without reccurence or complication after 6months follow-up.
Conclusion: This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate management of pancreatic pseudocysts to prevent complications.
